Advance Petroleum Takes Delivery of 8 Tieman EBS Tankers
10/Apr/2005
The mix of tandem and tri-axle tankers for Advance Petroleum feature EBS-electronic brake controls and disc brakes and each tri has a liftable front axle for empty running.
Each of the Tieman tankers has its own independent electronic control unit so that advanced EBS braking features like the Roll Stability Program, Brake Load Proportioning and of course ABS anti-lock braking work even if the prime-mover does not have EBS.
The new tankers also feature Diptronics, and Liquip manifolds so there is no reason for the driver to have to get on top of the tank. In fact there is not even a ladder.
Because Advance Petroleum operates in country areas of Victoria, Tasmania and the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, the tankers are also equipped with rear platforms and Tieman tailgate loaders for loading and carrying drums and packaged oil products.
"Safety was our first priority with the new tankers and then efficiency", Advance Petroleum Logistics Project Manager Darren Karslake explains. "We decided on EBS brakes as a safety feature and disc brakes go well with EBS. Liquid loads have lots of slop and the Roll Stability Program will improve tanker stability. And brake load proportioning which is part of the EBS system makes for safer, more effective braking when running empty."
All Advance Petroleum fleet prime-movers have ABS brakes and their latest Scania has EBS. Mr Karslake says future prime-movers will have EBS and disc brakes to maximise overall braking performance.
Stopping distance is reduced by up to 30% when all units in a combination are equipped with EBS and disc brakes.
The latest Tieman trailers are the first in the Advance Petroleum fleet with EBS braking. Five of the trailers are on BPW axles and suspensions with Knorr Bremse EBS electronics and three are on SAF axles with WABCO EBS electronics.
The different EBS systems are fully compatible.
The EBS control units record all brake applications and every time the Roll Stability Program is activated.
"These latest tankers for Advance Petroleum are a good example of what Tieman is now producing using the latest technology," Tieman Chief Executive Hymie Jechilevsky says. "Advance was willing to go the extra mile for safety but they have achieved great productivity outcomes as well."
